Malaysia opened their SEA Games 33 medal account in emphatic fashion as the Men’s Hockey 5s squad stormed to a commanding 7–3 victory over Indonesia, delivering the nation’s first gold medal at RTAF Hockey Stadium, Bangkok
At the heart of Malaysia’s triumph was the electric performance of Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook, who dazzled throughout the match and completed a stunning hat-trick to spearhead the country’s golden start.
It took only seven minutes for the breakthrough, as Akhimullah fired home the first field goal to set the tone. Just a minute later, Muhammad Abid Sufian Mat Ruslee doubled the lead with a sharp finish, before Luqman Nul Hakim made it 3–0 at the 14-minute mark.
Indonesia attempted to recover through a penalty conversion from Mochamad Fathur in the 19th minute, but their hopes were quickly dashed as Malaysia continued to find rhythm, space, and goals with precision.
Akhimullah bagged his second early in the second half, punishing Indonesia’s defensive lapse, and Abid Sufian added another to restore Malaysia’s comfortable cushion.
Indonesia’s Alfandy Prastyo briefly sparked resistance with a penalty conversion and a field goal in the same minute, but Malaysia’s composure remained unshaken.
Akhimullah completed his hat-trick in the 29th minute, before Shafiq Ikhmal Daniel Suzaini rounded off the historic win with a final field goal on the stroke of full-time.
As the buzzer sounded, Malaysia celebrated not just a win — but a statement of intent. The men’s Hockey 5s team have officially delivered Malaysia’s first gold medal of SEA Games 33, igniting the nation’s campaign with a powerful start.
With such a dominant performance, Malaysia’s Hockey 5s outfit has set the perfect tone for the rest of the Malaysian contingent as they look to build medal momentum in Bangkok.
