From the list of players above, Maloney has called up 19 players from the 23-man squad that has led Malaysia to qualify for the 2022 B-23 Asian Cup after emerging Group J champions, a qualifying match in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from 25 to 31 October 2021.
Also listed are two other players from the squad that played in the AFF 2022 B-23 Championship in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 14 to 26 February 2022, namely Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili (FAM-MSN Project Squad) and A. Selvan (Negeri Sembilan).
The remaining 10 players who were also called up this time consisted of three Selangor FC players – Danial Asri, Syahir Bashah and Aliff Haiqal; two Johor Darul Ta’zim II players – Daryl Sham and Ahmad Aysar Hadi; Terengganu FC goalkeeper, Rahadiazli Rahalim; two Terengganu FC II players, Muslihuddin ‘Atiq and Safwan Mazlan; Kuala Lumpur City FC player, Haqimi Azim Rosli and Japanese club player, Azul Claro, Hadi Fayyadh.
The Malaysia U23 squad will undergo daily training throughout the central training camp this time at UM Arena, Kuala Lumpur with the 31 players called up to report in stages after each of them has completed their match commitments with their respective clubs in the 2022 Super League. and the 2022 Premier League.
They are scheduled to hold two Tier 2 International Matches against Timor-Leste B-23 on April 29, 2022 and the Philippines B-23 on May 1, 2022, with both of these matches taking place behind closed doors without the presence of spectators based on consent from the teams that involved.
Maloney will then name the final list of 20 players for the 2021 SEA Games where the national Malaysia U23 squad is scheduled to depart from KLIA, Sepang to Hanoi, Vietnam on 4 May 2022. For the Group B competition at the 2021 SEA Games, Malaysia will start the campaign against Thailand on 7 May, Laos on 11 May, Singapore on 14 May and Cambodia on 16 May 2022, with all group matches scheduled to take place at Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh.
Meanwhile, the Group A competition lined up by the hosts who are also the defending champions, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Timor-Leste is scheduled to take place at the Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho.
The top two teams of each next group will qualify for the semi -finals on May 19 at Thien Truong Stadium and Viet Tri Stadium while the bronze medal match and Final are scheduled to take place on May 22, 2022 at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi.
