Kuching City FC clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sabah FC in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu.
Sabah lined up with veteran goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat guarding the posts, while Dominic Tan marshalled the defence and Fergus Tierney spearheaded the attack. Kuching City, meanwhile, handed starts to Wan Azraie in goal and Ramadhan Saifullah as the attacking focal point.
Both sides started brightly, trading early chances without finding the net. Ramadhan came close to breaking the deadlock in the 31st minute with a powerful strike that narrowly missed the target. Despite sustained pressure from The Cats, Sabah’s backline held firm, keeping the first half goalless.
After the restart, Kuching City stepped up their tempo, controlling possession and testing Sabah’s defence with several dangerous attacks. The visitors’ persistence finally paid off in the 74th minute when Jordan Mintah rose highest to head home the winning goal — his third of the season — giving The Cats a deserved lead.
Sabah pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but goalkeeper Wan Azraie stood tall with a string of impressive saves to deny Tierney and Saddil Ramdani late on.
The final whistle confirmed a vital 1-0 win for Kuching City, securing three valuable points on the road and piling further pressure on Sabah, who remain winless after six league fixtures.
Kuching City will now turn their focus to the FA Cup quarter-final against Terengganu FC on 18 October at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium. Meanwhile, Sabah FC will face Kelantan TRW away on 17 October in their own FA Cup quarter-final clash.
