Sabah FC has issued an official statement clarifying the circumstances behind FIFA’s decision to impose a temporary transfer ban on the club, stressing that the matter stemmed from a technical issue rather than financial incapacity.
According to the club, the case involves a former player whose contract had already ended. While Sabah FC had settled all outstanding salaries upon the expiry of the player’s contract, the player later submitted an additional claim.
Upon reviewing the claim, Sabah FC discovered that the payment in question had already been made during the player’s tenure with the club. However, due to a technical issue concerning the method and transaction of the payment, the matter escalated.
The player subsequently reported the case to FIFA, which led to the governing body issuing its decision.
Following this, Sabah FC complied with FIFA’s directive and made the additional payment as instructed, despite already having settled the amount earlier. The club confirmed that FIFA would now lift the imposed ban, emphasizing that this was purely a procedural and technical matter.
“This is not a matter of unwillingness or inability to pay, but rather a process of accountability, especially in matters involving finances,” the club explained.
