Kuala Lumpur City finally snapped their three-match winless streak in style after edging Imigresen FC 4–2 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 at KLFA Stadium, Cheras.
The morale-boosting victory saw Risto Vidakovic’s men climb to third place in the league standings with 28 points, level with second-placed Kuching City but trailing on goal difference.
Both sides produced an entertaining contest, with chances flowing freely at both ends. However, KL City were left frustrated early on as two first-half goals were disallowed following VAR reviews.
The hosts thought they had taken the lead as early as the seventh minute through Victor Ruiz, only for VAR to rule it out. Imigresen goalkeeper Zarif Irfan Hashimuddin then kept his side in the game with a fine save to deny Syamer Kutty Abba’s long-range effort in the 17th minute.
KL City eventually broke the deadlock in the 31st minute when Paulo Josue finished off a cross from Kamal Azizi Zabri, a goal that once again required VAR confirmation. Just three minutes later, Nicolao Dumitru saw another effort chalked off for offside, while KL City custodian Quincy Kammeraad preserved the 1–0 lead with a crucial save against Wilmar Jordan before the break.
Imigresen responded immediately after the restart, drawing level just a minute into the second half when Fadzrul Danel Mohd Nizam converted Wilmar’s assist to make it 1–1.
The visitors then stunned the home crowd in the 60th minute as Eduardo Sosa went on a solo run before calmly slotting past Kammeraad to put Imigresen 2–1 ahead.
However, the lead lasted only seven minutes. Josue struck again for KL City, unleashing a powerful effort from outside the penalty area to restore parity at 2–2.
The turning point came in the 69th minute when Imigresen were reduced to 10 men after Mior Dani Armin Mior Ariffen was shown a red card for a rough challenge on Ruiz. KL City wasted no time capitalising on their numerical advantage, scoring twice in quick succession.
Safawi Rasid put the hosts back in front in the 76th minute before Kpah Sherman sealed the win just two minutes later, completing a dramatic comeback and sending the home fans into celebration.
The result reignites KL City’s title push and restores confidence ahead of a crucial run of fixtures, while Imigresen are left to rue missed chances and a costly red card.
