Stadium Malaysia Corporation (PSM) has assured players, officials and fans that issues involving roof leaks or water dripping at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil will not recur during this year’s Malaysia Open and Malaysia Masters.
PSM Chief Executive Officer Ilyas Jamil confirmed that the replacement of the venue’s old roofing system has been fully completed, with a series of tests already carried out ahead of the Malaysia Open 2026, which gets underway next Tuesday.
“The roof repair and replacement works are already complete. What happened during last year’s Malaysia Masters was due to condensation, not structural leakage,” Ilyas told Bernama recently. “We have taken the necessary measures to ensure the issue does not happen again.”
According to Ilyas, testing conducted several weeks ago showed positive results, giving PSM confidence that the same problem will not affect this year’s tournament.
“We carried out tests a few weeks back and we expect that the same issue will not occur this year,” he added.
The assurance comes after last year’s Malaysia Open 2025 was disrupted when water dripped into the arena during first-round matches, forcing several games to be temporarily halted. A similar situation was also reported during the Malaysia Masters, although investigations later revealed it was caused by condensation rather than a leaking roof.
With the Malaysia Open 2026 set to welcome the world’s top shuttlers, PSM’s confirmation provides timely reassurance that Axiata Arena is now fully prepared to host the prestigious Super 1000 event without technical interruptions.
