Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, showcased their resilience and determination to secure a place in the semi-finals of the China Masters 2024 in Shenzhen.
The fourth-seeded pair overcame a stiff challenge from China’s Guo Xin Wa-Fang Hui in an intense 65-minute quarter-final battle, winning 14-21, 23-21, 21-16.
Despite holding a 1-0 advantage in previous encounters with the Chinese pair, Tang Jie-Ee Wei faced a tough start. Guo Xin Wa and Fang Hui displayed a sharp and aggressive strategy at the net, taking the first set comfortably at 21-14.
However, the Malaysian duo regrouped in the second set. After trailing 7-14, Tang Jie-Ee Wei mounted an incredible comeback, showing exceptional composure to level the game at 20-20. With renewed energy, they clinched the set 23-21, forcing a decider.
In the third set, Tang Jie-Ee Wei capitalized on their momentum, opening with an 11-8 lead at the interval. They maintained their rhythm and executed precise shots to close out the match at 21-16, earning their spot in the semi-finals.
This victory marks another milestone in Tang Jie and Ee Wei’s impressive 2024 campaign, where they continue to establish themselves as a formidable pair on the international stage. Their next challenge will be to secure a place in the final, as they aim to clinch their second major title this year.
