Malaysian track cycling legend Azizulhasni Awang once again demonstrated his class on the international stage by delivering an impressive performance at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup 2026 in Perth, Australia.
The 38-year-old national icon added another chapter to his remarkable career by claiming two medals in the tournament, highlighting his enduring competitiveness among the world’s elite sprinters.
In the men’s sprint event, Azizulhasni secured the bronze medal after defeating Mikhail Yakovlev of Israel in a decisive 2-0 victory.
Yakovlev, who previously represented Russia before switching allegiance to Israel in 2023 following the Russia–Ukraine conflict, entered the race with a clear age advantage.
However, Azizulhasni’s experience and tactical brilliance proved decisive as he comfortably outpaced the younger rider to secure a place on the podium.
The sprint event was ultimately won by Matthew Richardson, while Leigh Hoffman claimed the silver medal.
The bronze medal was not Azizulhasni’s only success in Perth. Earlier in the competition, the Malaysian star captured the gold medal in the keirin event, finishing ahead of Richardson and Hoffman in a thrilling race.
The victory reaffirmed Azizulhasni’s reputation as one of the world’s most formidable keirin specialists and underscored his remarkable longevity in the sport.
At 38, Azizulhasni continues to defy expectations and remain a key figure in global track cycling. His achievements in Perth serve as further proof that the Malaysian veteran still has the speed, experience and race intelligence to compete with the world’s best riders.
