Bangkok United have formally written to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) since mid-December 2025, requesting that their upcoming ASEAN Club Championship 2025/26 fixture against Cambodian side Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng be moved to a neutral venue.
The request, submitted ahead of the scheduled match on January 29, 2026, was made due to concerns over the security situation along the Thai–Cambodian border, with the club stating they are not confident about travelling to Cambodia under the current circumstances.
However, as the new year begins, AFF have yet to respond to Bangkok United’s appeal, despite the match being less than three weeks away. The lack of official feedback has left the Thai club in a state of uncertainty, unable to proceed with logistical arrangements such as booking flights or accommodation.
Sources close to the club revealed that Bangkok United are standing firm on their position and will not travel to Cambodia for the fixture, even if it results in disciplinary action or a forfeited match. The club remain consistent with their original stance, prioritising safety and clarity before making any further decisions.
Despite the prolonged silence, Bangkok United are still hopeful that AFF will issue an official response within the coming week, allowing all parties to move forward with certainty as the ASEAN Club Championship enters a crucial phase.
With time ticking down and preparations stalled, the situation places added pressure on AFF to provide direction, as the outcome could set a significant precedent for cross-border fixtures amid regional sensitivities.
