Journey of national professional mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai, was ended after fall in the Round of 16 in the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2026 earlier today.
Concerns raised by Soon Huat as early as yesterday proved justified after Shevon was struck by food poisoning, severely affecting the pair’s ability to compete at full capacity on court.
As a result, the Malaysian duo were unable to replicate last year’s success against the same opponents, conceding defeat to the United States pairing of Presley Smith and Jennie Gai, who advanced to the quarter-finals with a 21-9, 21-17 straight-game victory in 35 minutes.
The unexpected setback was a disappointing blow for Soon Huat–Shevon, who had been hoping to build momentum on home soil but instead saw their campaign derailed by circumstances beyond their control.
