Thailand’s sprint sensation Puripol “Bew” Boonson lived up to his top billing after powering to the men’s 100 metres gold medal, despite a slower start, in a dramatic SEA Games final at Supachalasai Stadium this evening.
The 18-year-old Thai superstar initially trailed out of the blocks but displayed his trademark explosive finishing speed, surging past the field in the final metres to cross the line in 10.00 seconds — securing the title in emphatic fashion.
Indonesia’s rising sprinter Muhammad Lalu Zohri took the silver with a time of 10.25 seconds, while Malaysia’s Muhammad Rosli Danish clinched bronze, clocking 10.26 seconds in a tight finish.
Puripol’s blistering 9.94 seconds from the earlier qualifying round also etched his name into SEA Games history, becoming the fastest 100m time ever recorded at the biennial event, and the first of ASEAN to made record below 10 seconds.
That run shattered the previous SEA Games record of 10.17 seconds, set by Indonesia’s Suryo Agung Wibowo in 2009.
