Malaysia delivered a powerful statement of intent in the SEA Games 2025 individual badminton events, placing seven entries into the semi-finals across all five categories — guaranteeing at least seven bronze medals for the nation.
World No. 2 women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan–M. Thinaah showed their class with a lightning-fast performance, dismissing Thailand’s Benyapa Aimsaard–Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-11, 21-14 in just 30 minutes.
The Malaysian duo controlled the match from start to finish, silencing the home supporters at Bangkok’s buzzing arena.
Both of Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pairs overcame the pressure of the roaring Thai crowd to book back-to-back semi-final berths.
The Olympic champions defeated Supak Jomkoh–Kittinupong Kedren 21-16, 21-16, setting up a blockbuster clash against Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando–Daniel Marthin — a pair they have beaten twice previously.
The in-form pair battled past Peeratchai Sukhpun–Pakkapon Teeraratsakul 21-16, 21-19 in a tight contest.
They now face one of Indonesia’s most dangerous combinations, Sabar Karwaman Gutama–Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, in the semi-finals.
Both Malaysian men’s singles shuttlers produced confident straight-game victories.
Justin Hoh defeated Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-15, 21-17, and he will next face the winner between Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan.
