The controversy surrounding the seven heritage players of the Harimau Malaya national team has taken a significant turn, with two individuals already called in by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to assist investigations.
On Wednesday, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed that it had acted on the recommendation of the Independent Investigation Committee (IIC) by lodging a police report regarding alleged document forgery involving the seven players.
Acting FAM President Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Mahadi said the association moved swiftly following the IIC’s findings.
“FAM has followed the IIC’s recommendation to lodge a police report as soon as possible, and we have just completed the process,” he said.
“From here, the matter is entirely in the hands of the police for further action. The investigation is related to document forgery.”
“I expect the police will call in individuals again for questioning. Normally, cases like this fall under Commercial Crime,” he added.
According to a report by Stadium Astro, police have officially opened an investigation paper under existing legal provisions and have already recorded statements from two individuals, although their identities have not been disclosed.
Director of the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK), Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code, which relates to forgery for the purpose of cheating.
“An investigation paper has been opened under Section 468 of the Penal Code for further action. So far, two statements have been recorded, but the identities are not being disclosed,” he was quoted as saying.
The latest development underscores the seriousness of the issue, as Malaysian football authorities move to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the national team setup. With both FAM and the police now involved, further questioning and investigative steps are expected in the coming days.
The case remains ongoing, with more details anticipated as investigations progress.
