Johor Darul Ta’Zim earned 3 points in away match after beating Penang FC scoring 3-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Stadium Bandaraya, Pulau Pinang.
Coming into the match with a point to prove following their AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) exit, JDT were determined to reassert their dominance. Meanwhile, Penang FC struggled with form, having secured just one win in their last six outings.
JDT’s starting XI saw the return of Matt Davies and Shahrul Saad to the defensive line alongside Eddy Israfilov, while Penang banked on forwards Wenzel-Halls and Rodrigo Dias to find a breakthrough.
The visitors wasted no time asserting control. In the 20th minute, a well-delivered corner from Nazmi Faiz found Eddy Israfilov, who powered a header past Sikh Izhan to open the scoring.
Just seven minutes later, Israfilov struck again. This time, he rose highest to meet Heberty Fernandes’ corner from the left flank, sending another unstoppable header into the net to double JDT’s advantage.
JDT nearly made it 3-0 in the 36th minute when a penalty was awarded, but Sikh Izhan produced a heroic save to deny Bergson Da Silva, keeping Penang’s hopes alive.
Leading 2-0 at halftime, JDT remained relentless. It took just minutes into the second half for Heberty Fernandes to put the game beyond doubt, rifling a powerful shot past the keeper after a smart assist from Romel Morales.
Despite Penang’s efforts to mount a response, JDT’s defensive solidity held firm, securing a well-earned clean sheet.
With this resounding victory, JDT continues their charge in the league as the competition heads into a brief international break. Upon resumption, JDT will take on Kedah on March 29, while Penang will seek redemption against Negeri Sembilan in April.
