International Football Federation (FIFA) was subjected to restrictions on Sarawak United on the transfer of local and foreign players for three transfer windows after failing to Settle Salary Arrears.
Sarawak United has failed to settle the salary arrears and compensation of its former import player, Sandro da Silva, which amounted to more than RM150,000.
“FIFA’s decision has already been issued so they must explain the payment within 45 days, which is until June 18. But they failed to do so until the specified date.
“So the team is subject to restrictions on the transfer of local and foreign players for up to three consecutive player registration periods,” said Sandro’s lawyer, Mohd Zhafri Aminurashid.
FIFA stated that Sarawak United failed to comply with its financial obligations in accordance with the decision made by the parent body, thus seeing the punishment have to be imposed.
In fact, a harsher punishment will await the team if they refuse to pay the arrears as demanded by Sandro.
“If this matter continues, the case can be taken to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and after that, heavier punishment can be imposed on them. Among them, the denial of points or restrictions to register players, ”explained Mohd Zhafri.
Last year, the Malaysian Football League (MFL) announced that Sarawak United had been granted a conditional national license. This is because they have outstanding debts with the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) that have not been settled.
Problems that recur every season such as the issue of salary arrears make it difficult for the Malaysian League to move to a better level.
It will give a bad image to the Malaysian League so it is difficult for any sponsor to want to get involved with the team and reduce the confidence of big companies to be the main sponsor.
