Cambodian Paralympic Committee (NPCC) has officially confirmed its withdrawal from the ASEAN Para Games 2025, citing safety concerns despite Thailand’s preparations as host nation.
In a formal letter addressed to the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) and the Thailand Sports Organising Committee (THASOC), the NPCC stated that Cambodia will not send its athletes or officials to participate in the regional multi-sport event.
This decision marks a continued withdrawal by Cambodia following its earlier absence from the 2025 SEA Games, a move linked to ongoing tensions and previous clashes along the Thai–Cambodian border. Although a ceasefire agreement was signed on 27 December 2025, Cambodian authorities have maintained their stance, opting not to risk the participation of their para-athletes.
The development comes as a setback to the spirit of regional unity and inclusivity that underpins the ASEAN Para Games, which serves as a key platform for athletes with disabilities to compete at the highest level in Southeast Asia.
The ASEAN Para Games 2025 is scheduled to take place from 20 to 26 January 2025 in Nakhon Ratchasima, with Thailand expected to host athletes and officials from across the region.
