Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed that the entire Executive Committee elected for the 2025–2029 term has collectively and voluntarily tendered their resignations with immediate effect, in a dramatic move aimed at safeguarding the integrity of Malaysian football.
In an official statement released today, the committee said the decision was made unanimously, stressing that the step was taken based on organisational responsibility rather than personal interests or attachment to positions.
The resignation comes amid a situation that has drawn significant public attention, with the Executive Committee acknowledging the need to act decisively in order to protect FAM’s credibility.
“This is a prudent and principled step taken in response to the current circumstances,” the statement read.
FAM explained that the collective resignation is intended to ensure several key objectives, including protecting the association’s reputation, preserving public trust, and reducing the risk of further developments that could negatively impact Malaysian football.
The committee also highlighted that stepping down would allow FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) the necessary space to independently assess governance and administrative matters within FAM.
Among the key reasons outlined was the need to uphold the principles of good governance and accountability, while ensuring that any reforms required can be carried out without disruption or conflicts of perception.
Notably, the Executive Committee stressed that service to the national game must take priority over holding office, despite being elected with a four-year mandate.
The group voluntarily relinquished their roles after just 11 months, in what is being seen as an unprecedented decision in Malaysian football administration.
Despite no longer holding official positions, the former committee members reiterated their commitment to continue cooperating fully with FIFA, AFC and all relevant stakeholders, emphasising their long-term dedication to the development and stability of Malaysian football.
