Kim Pan-gon, head coach of Malaysia national team wants to improve FIFA’s world rankings of Harimau Malaya in the world ranking group of 120 on a par with Thailand and Tajikistan.
After the draw against Tajikistan, Malaysia gained an additional 1.16 points and overall collected 4.73 points after the end of the 48th King’s Cup 2022 tournament.
Based on this number of points, Malaysia has the opportunity to move up 2 places to 145th in the world in October 2022. However, it depends release ranking by FIFA on 6 October after the rest of the results of other matches from around the world.
“We must improve the FIFA ranking position. I think this world ranking of 148 is unrealistic. I challenged the players to prove their mettle against higher ranked opponents and they did it against Thailand and Tajikistan.” Kim said.
“They showed improvement in the two games. We need to organize more competitive matches against highly ranked teams. This is the target for the next few years.”
“We must catch up with other teams and improve the ranking. Malaysia should be comparable in terms of ranking with teams like Thailand and Tajikistan,”
