Defender Matthew Davies has stressed the importance of confidence and teamwork as Johor Darul Ta’zim prepare to face Buriram United in a crucial Shopee Cup semi-final first leg.
While acknowledging Buriram’s strength, Davies insisted that past encounters should not dictate the outcome of the upcoming clash.
“We respect Buriram as a strong team that has caused us problems before,” said Davies.
“But past records don’t define this match. What matters is how we perform now.”
The experienced defender highlighted JDT’s strong home record and belief in their ability to overcome top opposition at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
“We’ve shown that we can beat strong teams at home. That gives us confidence,” he added.
Davies also pointed out that unity within the squad will be crucial in their pursuit of regional silverware.
“As a team, we must play with high confidence. Every player wants to win this ACC trophy, and we have to show that desire on the pitch.
Davies’ leadership at the back will be vital in organizing JDT’s defensive structure against Buriram’s attacking threats. His emphasis on unity and confidence reflects a squad determined to rise to the occasion on home soil.
