Malaysia U17 national team powered into the ASEAN U17 Boys’ Championship 2026 final with a dominant 3-0 victory over Laos U17 national team in the semi-finals at Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo.
Malaysia wasted no time asserting control. Skipper Adam Muqri Muhaizam led from the front, orchestrating early pressure that forced Laos onto the back foot.
The breakthrough arrived in the 7th minute after a VAR review spotted a foul by Bounthasak Chandala inside the box. The defender was shown a red card, leaving Laos with 10 men.
Stepping up with composure, Yusuf Nasrullah Ramli calmly slotted home the penalty to give Malaysia the perfect start.
Just four minutes later, Malaysia doubled their advantage through a moment of brilliance. Aniq Thaqif Hairulnizam unleashed a thunderous strike into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Sankham Thavithong with no chance.
Malaysia had the opportunity to extend their lead before halftime when they were awarded another penalty. However, this time Yusuf was denied by a strong save from Sankham, keeping Laos’ slim hopes alive.
Despite the miss, Laos struggled to respond effectively, trailing 2-0 at the break.
After the restart, Malaysia continued their attacking intent, refusing to sit back.
Their persistence paid off in the 57th minute when Laos defender Nilandone Xayaseng inadvertently turned the ball into his own net following a dangerous effort from Muzakir Fitri Muhamad.
Laos nearly found a consolation goal through substitute Vithaya Sophaxay, but his effort drifted wide—summing up a frustrating evening for the ten-man side coached by Supachai Klangkrasae.
The final whistle confirmed a comprehensive 3-0 win—sending Malaysia into their first final since 2019 and placing them on the brink of regional glory.
Awaiting them in the final will be either Vietnam national under-16 football team or Australia national under-16 football team, with the championship clash set for April 24 at Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo.
