The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has officially received a decision from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Disciplinary & Ethics Committee regarding the fielding of ineligible players in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
The committee meeting, held on Tuesday, 17 March 2026 and chaired by Jahangir Baglari, ruled that FAM had violated Article 56 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code.
The violations relate to two qualifying matches in which Malaysia originally secured victories over Nepal 2-0 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on 25 March 2025, and Vietnam 4-0 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on 10 June 2025.
Following the ruling, the AFC has declared both matches as 3-0 forfeits against Malaysia, in accordance with Article 25.1 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code.
This decision significantly impacts Malaysia’s standing in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
In addition to the sporting sanctions, the Football Association of Malaysia has been fined USD 50,000 (approximately RM196,119).
FAM confirmed that it will submit a formal written request to obtain the full grounds of the decision from the AFC Disciplinary & Ethics Committee.
The governing body will then evaluate its next course of action, which could include further legal or procedural steps.
