Johor Darul Ta’Zim have officially etched their names into the history books once again, securing their 12th consecutive Liga Super title after a commanding 3-0 victory over DPMM FC at Stadium National Hassanal Bolkiah, Berakas.
The Southern Tigers traveled to Bandar Seri Begawan needing just one win to seal the deal, and despite a resilient start from the hosts, Xisco Munoz’s men proved why they are the undisputed heavyweights of Southeast Asian football.
JDT thought they had taken an early lead twice through Ajdin Mujagic and Antonio Glauder, but both strikes were ruled out for offside after Video Assistant Referee reviews.
In the 33rd minute, the deadlock was finally broken. Ager Aketxe stepped up and unleashed a trademark free-kick that flew into the top corner, leaving DPMM captain Haimie Nyaring with no chance.
While DPMM searched for a lifeline—including a Hakeme Yazid goal that was also chalked off for offside—JDT turned up the heat: Oscar Arribas doubled the lead in the 74th minute, silencing the home crowd.
Marcos Guilherme put the icing on the cake three minutes later with a stunning strike from outside the box. It marks his 9th goal across all competitions since joining the champions.
DPMM’s night went from bad to worse as former Penang FC man Fairuz Zakaria saw red for the second time this season, leaving the hosts to finish with 10 men.
This victory marks JDT’s third trophy of the season, adding the league title to their Piala Sumbangsih and Piala FA triumphs. Most importantly, this win guarantees the Southern Tigers a merit spot in next season’s AFC Champions League Elite.
With 57 points—15 clear of second-placed Selangor FC—JDT remain the untouchable force in Malaysian football.
