Johor Darul Ta’zim showed exactly why they are the undisputed kings of Malaysian football, delivering a brutal 6-1 masterclass against Sabah FC in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu.
The Southern Tigers didn’t just win; they sent a terrifying message to the rest of the league, stretching their lead at the top and leaving the “Sang Badak” shell-shocked in front of their own fans.
JDT came out hunting, and it only took eight minutes for the drama to ignite. After a VAR intervention spotted a foul in the box, the ever-reliable Bergson da Silva stepped up, ice in his veins, to slot home the penalty.
Then came the “homecoming” from hell for Sabah. Former Sang Badak striker Ajdin Mujagic reminded the Likas faithful of his quality, netting a clinical brace (21′, 40′). In between his strikes, Oscar Arribas chipped in with a goal of his own (24′). By the time the halftime whistle blew, JDT was cruising at 4-0, and the contest was effectively over.
Sabah’s acting head coach, Alto Linus, threw on Gary Steven Robbat to stabilize the midfield, but JDT’s “Harimau Malaya” spirit was relentless.
Just 60 seconds after the restart, Manuel Hidalgo made it five. And next two minutes, Oscar Arribas completed his personal brace, pushing the scoreline to an embarrassing 6-0.
Sabah managed a consolation goal through Chris Marlon Ondong-Mba to save a sliver of pride, but the damage was irreversible. Even a late red card for Antonio Glauder in the 90th minute couldn’t dampen the JDT celebrations.
With 51 points in the bag, JDT is now miles clear of second-placed Selangor FC. They now shift their focus to the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals against Melaka FC this Wednesday. For Sabah, sitting precariously in 11th place, it’s back to the drawing board before they face Negeri Sembilan FC.
