Malaysia’s national women’s hockey team once again underlined their undisputed dominance in Southeast Asia after crushing Indonesia 6-0 in the SEA Games 2025 final at the TNSU Chonburi Campus Hockey Field, Chonburi.
Khairunnisa Ayuni Mohd Sharuddin opened the scoring in the 8th minute, expertly converting a penalty corner to put Indonesia on the back foot early.
The pressure continued to mount, and just 11 minutes later, Nurmaizatul Hanim Syafi Shiek Fuad doubled Malaysia’s advantage with a well-taken field goal, capping a dominant first-half display.
Before the halftime whistle, Khairunnisa struck again, netting Malaysia’s third goal three minutes before the end of the second quarter, effectively putting the contest beyond doubt.
Nur Afiqah Syahzani Azhar took centre stage with two quick field goals in the 46th and 49th minutes, slicing through the Indonesian defence with pace and precision.
Hanis Nadiah Onn completed the rout in the 57th minute, sealing a commanding 6-0 triumph and sparking celebrations on the Malaysian bench.
The emphatic victory not only reaffirmed Malaysia’s supremacy in women’s field hockey but also highlighted the depth, discipline and consistency that have defined the Malaysian Tigress era over the past two decades.
Despite the one-sided scoreline, head coach Mohd Nasihin Nubli was quick to stress that the ninth consecutive gold medal was far from an easy achievement.
“Alhamdulillah, we managed to retain the gold medal, but it was not an easy task. Many teams came well-prepared for this SEA Games,” he said after the match.
Nasihin also praised his players’ ability to adapt to challenging conditions in Thailand.
“I salute the players. The environment here was quite demanding, but they adjusted quickly and stayed focused throughout the tournament.
There are no words to describe my happiness, and we truly thank the loyal hockey fans who stood by us and waited for this success.”
With this latest triumph, Malaysia’s women’s hockey team continue to set the benchmark in the region — nine SEA Games gold medals in a row, a testament to sustained excellence, strong development pathways and an unbreakable winning mentality.
