Malaysia’s men’s doubles shuttlers are showcasing their depth and resilience on the world stage, with all four national pairs storming into the third round of the BWF World Championships 2025 at the Adidas Arena.
The latest success came from Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, who displayed grit and determination in their morning clash against the United States’ Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith. Despite a shaky start that saw them drop the opening game 19-21, the Malaysians roared back in style, taking the next two games 21-10, 21-17 in a 51-minute battle.
Their victory capped a remarkable run for Malaysia, as three other national men’s doubles pairs had already sealed their spots in the next round: Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, Yap Roy King-Arif Junaidi, and top pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik.
The third round now promises an all-Malaysian showdown. Aaron-Wooi Yik, the Olympic bronze medalists and top seeds, will face the rising young duo Roy King-Arif, who stunned Thailand’s Kittinupong Kedren-Dechapol Puavaranukroh with an impressive 21-13, 21-17 triumph in the second round. This guarantees Malaysia at least one quarter-final spot.
Elsewhere, Wei Chong-Kai Wun will have to overcome a stern challenge from 14th seeds Ben Lane-Sean Vendy of England, while Sze Fei-Izzuddin prepare for a testing encounter against Taiwan’s Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Po-Hsuan.
With Malaysia’s men’s doubles discipline firing on all cylinders, the national camp is buzzing with optimism. The strong collective showing not only highlights the country’s growing depth but also raises hopes of multiple quarter-final appearances — and potentially medals — at this year’s World Championships.
