Lion City Sailors, a club from Singapore earned 3 points in away match after beating Port FC, a club from Thailand scoring 3-1 in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 Group Stage, Group H at Pathum Thani Stadium, Pathum Thani.
The Sailors took control early, netting twice within the first 17 minutes. The opener came in the 14th minute after a defensive lapse from Port FC, allowing Christopher Van Huizen to set up Shawal Anuar for the first goal.
Just three minutes later, another error—this time from Noboru Shimura—handed Shawal another opportunity, which he converted with precision to double the lead.
Port FC showed resilience, dominating possession but struggling to create meaningful chances against the solid defense and composed goalkeeping of Izwan Mahbud. Despite this, Port nearly capitalized on a misstep by Isaac Honny, but Song Ui-young’s attempt soared over the bar.
The second half saw a revitalized Port FC side, as they intensified their attacks. Close chances from Lonsana Doumbouya’s header and a diving attempt by Felipe Amorim signaled the hosts’ intent.
Their persistence paid off in the 55th minute when Shimura redeemed his earlier mistake, heading in a well-placed corner from Kevin Deeromram to bring the score to 2-1.
However, Lion City Sailors dashed Port FC’s comeback hopes in the 65th minute when Maxime Lestienne set up Shawal, who laid the ball off for Song Ui-young. His deflected shot looped over Worawut Srisupa, restoring the Sailors’ two-goal cushion.
The Sailors’ victory positions them well for their next match, as they prepare to host Indonesia’s Persib Bandung on November 7. Port FC, meanwhile, will travel to China to take on Zhejiang FC, aiming to bounce back in the group stage.
