Selangor FC has been struck by a wave of injuries just before their crucial Group H match in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 against South Korea’s Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, set to take place tomorrow night.
In a press conference earlier today, head coach Nidzam Jamil confirmed that key midfielder Noor Al-Rawabdeh, from Jordan, has been sidelined for nine months due to a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury. The loss of Al-Rawabdeh is a significant blow to Selangor’s campaign, as he has been a central figure in their midfield.
Adding to the team’s challenges, captain Safuwan Baharudin and central midfielder Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi are also ruled out, with Safuwan nursing an injury and Mukhairi reportedly dealing with a thigh issue. To compound the team’s problems, speedy winger Alvin Fortes is not yet fit for action, awaiting medical clearance to rejoin the squad.
When asked about potential changes to the lineup, Nidzam Jamil was measured in his response. “I don’t want to say it’s a reshuffle,” he said. “We have players who cannot be fielded due to injury, but those who will be given a chance must step up and deliver their best for the team. Tomorrow’s match will give us a clearer picture of how things will unfold.”
Despite the injuries, Nidzam expressed optimism about the young talent within the squad. “We are fortunate to have many young players who are eager to enjoy the moment tomorrow night,” he added.
Selangor FC will be relying heavily on these younger players to rise to the occasion as they face a strong Jeonbuk side. With key players unavailable, this match presents both a significant challenge and an opportunity for Selangor’s rising stars to make their mark on the ACL2 stage.
AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 Group Stage, Group H matchday 3 between Selangor FC vs Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors will be held in 23 October 2024 on 8.00pm,(Malaysia time) at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
