FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 3 match between Palestine and Jordan, is set to take place at the KLFA Stadium, Cheras, on Tuesday, 10 September 2024.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced that Malaysia was selected as the venue after discussions between the Palestine Football Association (PFA) and FAM President, Datuk Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin. The PFA sought a suitable neutral or home venue for their Group B match, due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza since October last year.
After careful consideration, an agreement was reached between FAM and PFA, with Datuk Haji Hamidin, also a FIFA Council Member, offering a neutral venue in Malaysia, ultimately selecting the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium. FAM expressed great honor in being chosen by Palestine as the neutral host for their national team’s match, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia’s football history.
This is not the first time Malaysia has served as a neutral venue for international football. In 2017, the country hosted the first action of the FIFA World Cup 2018 Asian Qualifiers playoff between Syria and Australia at Hang Jebat Stadium, Malacca.
Palestine made history by advancing to the Third Round of World Cup Qualifiers for the first time after securing a goalless draw against Lebanon in Doha, Qatar, on June 7. In Group B, Palestine faces tough competition against Korea Republic, Iraq, Oman, Kuwait, and Jordan.
