Selangor FC made a flying start to the 2026/27 Unifi Liga Super Malaysia season after powering past debutants Kelantan Red Warrior FC 4-1 at Sultan Muhammad IV, Kota Bharu.
The Red Giants dominated the opening fixture behind a brace apiece from Faisal Halim and Chrigor Moraes, immediately announcing their intentions for the new campaign.
Kelantan Red Warrior, making their first-ever appearance in the Malaysia Super League, found themselves up against a Selangor side led by head coach Kim Pan-gon, with national team winger Faisal wearing the captain’s armband.
The hosts, meanwhile, relied on attacking duo Emmanuel Mbarga and Philip Musa.
The match began slightly later than scheduled because of concerns over possible rain and thunderstorms, but the delay did little to affect Selangor’s focus.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Chrigor Moraes rose to power home a header and put Selangor in front.
Kelantan RW struggled to respond as Selangor continued to control the contest.
Ten minutes later, the Red Giants doubled their advantage. Faisal Halim found the back of the net to make it 2-0, giving Selangor a comfortable cushion heading into half-time.
Selangor wasted little time extending their lead after the restart. Faisal once again displayed his quality, calmly finishing past Kelantan goalkeeper Nik Amin to score his second goal of the night.
The goal put Selangor firmly in control and left Kelantan RW facing a three-goal deficit on their Super League debut.
However, the home side finally gave their supporters something to celebrate in the 61st minute.
Philip Musa pulled one back for Kelantan RW, scoring the club’s first goal in their maiden Super League campaign.
Chrigor Moraes completed his own brace with Selangor’s fourth goal, restoring the three-goal advantage and effectively sealing all three points.
The final whistle confirmed a 4-1 victory for Selangor, giving Kim Pan-gon’s side the ideal beginning to their 2026/27 league campaign.
For Kelantan Red Warrior, the defeat marks a difficult introduction to top-flight football, but Philip Musa’s goal provides an important first milestone for the newly promoted side.
