Malaysia U17 women’s national team got off to a flying start in their AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers campaign with a solid 2–0 victory over hosts Tajikistan at Pamir Stadium, Dushanbe.
Malaysia’s head coach fielded Putri Aina between the posts, with Nur Qistina wearing the captain’s armband and Nur Laila Syamila spearheading the attack. On the opposite side, Tajikistan lined up with captain Kholdorova Farahnov leading the defense, while Kamilla Rasulova was the team’s attacking focal point.
Malaysia took control early on and broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, thanks to a sharp finish from Laila Syamila, the team’s prolific striker. Her precise shot gave the visitors a 1–0 lead and silenced the home crowd.
Tajikistan tried to respond quickly with several dangerous attempts on goal, but goalkeeper Putri Aina stood firm with a series of impressive saves to maintain Malaysia’s advantage.
By the 35th minute, Malaysia continued to dominate possession, frustrating Tajikistan’s forwards who struggled to penetrate a disciplined Malaysian defense. The first half ended with Malaysia holding a slender but deserved 1–0 lead.
After the break, the Junior Malayan Tigresses stepped up their tempo in search of a second goal. Their high pressing and quick transitions kept Tajikistan under constant pressure, preventing the home side from building any attacking rhythm.
Despite playing on home soil, Tajikistan failed to capitalize on their chances, while Malaysia’s composure and tactical discipline shone through.
The decisive moment came in the 85th minute, when Dishanna Pillay — known for her clinical finishing — struck from close range to make it 2–0, effectively sealing all three points for Malaysia.
The victory marks a positive start for Malaysia in their opening qualifier, earning three crucial points and valuable momentum as they push for a place in the final tournament.
Malaysia’s head coach praised the team’s focus and discipline throughout the match, highlighting the defensive stability and attacking flair that defined the performance.
Malaysia will look to carry this momentum into their next group fixture, as the team aims to continue their impressive form on the road to the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026.
