Malaysia’s professional men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani saw their campaign at the Singapore Open 2026 come to an end in the quarter-finals after falling to Indonesia’s formidable duo Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Shohibul Fikri on Friday.
The world No. 8 Malaysian pair went down 18-21, 21-10, 14-21 to the tournament’s third seeds in a gripping 54-minute battle at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin opened the match with confidence and intensity, matching the Indonesian combination point for point in a tightly contested first game. However, several costly errors late in the set allowed Fajar-Fikri to edge ahead and secure a 21-18 victory.
The Malaysians responded brilliantly in the second game, raising the tempo with aggressive attacking play while successfully disrupting the rhythm of their opponents. Their dominance was evident throughout the set as they stormed to an emphatic 21-10 win to force the match into a deciding game.
With momentum seemingly on their side, hopes were high for another comeback victory. However, the Indonesian pair regrouped strongly in the decider, tightening their defence and executing with greater composure in key rallies before sealing the match 21-14.
The defeat marked another frustrating near miss for the Malaysian duo, who arrived in Singapore carrying strong momentum after finishing runners-up at the Malaysia Masters 2026 last week.
At the home tournament, Sze Fei-Izzuddin impressed by defeating fellow Malaysians and world No. 2 pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the semi-finals before eventually losing to Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard in the final.
Despite the Singapore disappointment, the recent performances continue to show positive signs for the independent Malaysian pair as they build consistency ahead of the upcoming major tournaments on the BWF calendar.
