It was another nerve-wracking Round of 32 battle for the 6th seeds, GOH Sze Fei / Nur IZZUDDIN. They started strong but were forced into a decider by the gritty Scottish duo, Christopher and Matthew Grimley, ultimately prevailing 21-11, 15-21, 21-16
Delivering the most comfortable men’s doubles win of the day, MAN Wei Chong / TEE Kai Wun (11) dismantled China’s Huang Di and Liu Yang in straight sets, 21-14, 21-15, booking their ticket to the next round with style.
WONG Ling Ching was in a class of her own in the Round of 64. She commanded the court from start to finish, easily brushing aside Peru’s Namie Miyahira, 21-10, 21-12. A fantastic confidence booster as she heads deeper into the tournament.
While there was plenty to celebrate, the fierce continental competition proved too steep a hurdle for some of our shuttlers in the Round of 64.
Young prospect Justin HOH faced a massive challenge against the 12th seed from Chinese Taipei, Lin Chun-Yi. Despite a fighting effort in the opening game, Justin bowed out 18-21, 8-21.
WONG Tien Ci / LIM Chiew Sien struggled to find their rhythm against the formidable Indonesian pairing of Rehan N. Kusharjanto and Gloria E. Widjaja, suffering a heavy 16-21, 3-21 defeat
