Malaysia’s Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik are just one victory away from reclaiming the BWF World Championships men’s doubles crown after booking their place in the 2026 final in New Delhi.
Arriving at the tournament without a specific target and embracing the role of underdogs, the world No.4 Malaysian pair produced a superb semi-final performance to defeat defending champions and world No.1 combination Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae of South Korea 21-17, 21-18 in 43 minutes.
The victory also created a major piece of Malaysian badminton history.
Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have become the first Malaysian men’s doubles pair to reach the World Championship final twice, following their first appearance in 2022 — when they went all the way to the title.
Now, four years later, they have another opportunity to become world champions.
The Malaysians entered New Delhi without placing excessive pressure on themselves, choosing instead to approach the tournament as outsiders despite their status as one of the world’s leading pairs.
Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik now stand one match away from adding another chapter to their already remarkable World Championship story.
They lifted the world title in 2022, and they are now back in the final in 2026.
Victory would make them only the second Malaysian men’s doubles pair to win multiple World Championship titles, while further cementing their status among the country’s greatest-ever men’s doubles combinations.
Standing between them and another world crown are China’s third seeds Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang. The final is scheduled for 6:30 PM Malaysian time.
