Host nation Thailand sent an early warning to their SEA Games rivals after producing a dominant display to crush Malaysia 7-1 in their opening men’s futsal match at the SEA Games 2025 at Nonthaburi PAO Gymnasium.
Under the guidance of Spanish tactician Miguel Rodrigo, the Thai futsal powerhouse needed just 60 seconds to stamp their authority, with Worasak Srirangphairoj finishing off a sharp move initiated by Amarin Ekapun. From there, it was one-way traffic.
Thailand’s fluid passing and high-tempo pressing overwhelmed Malaysia, as goals from Chaowala Sriawut and Muhammad Usman Musa inside the opening eight minutes put the hosts firmly in control. Although Malaysia briefly reduced the deficit through Mohammad Alwaluddin, Thailand responded emphatically before halftime, with Usman Musa netting his second to make it 4-1.
The second half belonged entirely to the hosts. Thailand maintained relentless pressure, and once Usman Musa completed his hat-trick in the 37th minute, the floodgates opened. Late strikes from Athipong Munphlai and Ronnachai Joongwongsuk capped a ruthless attacking performance that thrilled the home crowd at Nonthaburi Stadium.
The convincing victory not only delivered Thailand’s first three points but also reinforced their status as gold medal favourites, combining experience, pace and clinical finishing in front of goal.
Malaysia will look to maintain their momentum when they face Vietnam in their second group match on December 16, once again at Nonthaburi PAO Gymnasium.
