Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) are on the verge of potentially creating world football history, with club chief executive officer Luis Garcia calling on the Southern Tigers to complete a remarkable unbeaten run that began in 2021.
JDT have built one of the most dominant records in Malaysian domestic football in recent years, and Garcia believes the achievement is even more extraordinary because of the pressure that comes with being the team everyone wants to beat.
The JDT CEO, who has experienced top-level football in Europe both as a player and observer, stressed that maintaining an unbeaten record over such a long period is an enormous challenge regardless of a team’s quality.
“It is amazing that we are now on the verge of creating a World Record for the longest unbeaten run in a league, something that started back in 2021.”
Garcia knows exactly what it takes to remain unbeaten at the highest level.
Having witnessed and played for dominant teams during his career in Europe, he understands that success creates an entirely different challenge for the team at the top.
“I have played and watched many dominant teams throughout my career in Europe, so I know how difficult it is to remain unbeaten regardless of how strong a team is.”
The reason is simple: opponents raise their level when facing the champions.
“Everyone wants to beat you and considers every match against you like a final.”
According to Garcia, that mentality has been evident throughout JDT’s remarkable run.
“That is exactly what happens to JDT.”
The Southern Tigers have therefore had to deal not only with the pressure of maintaining their own standards, but also with opponents treating every fixture against them as an opportunity to create an upset.
JDT’s unbeaten sequence began in 2021 and has continued through multiple seasons of domestic dominance.
The run has become a reflection of the club’s sustained investment, consistency and championship mentality.
For Garcia, the achievement belongs to everyone involved with the club.
“Therefore, the unbeaten run that we have achieved together with JDT so far is truly something extraordinary.”
The words “together with JDT” are significant.
The record has been built by players, coaches, staff, management and supporters working toward the same objective over a number of years.
Now JDT stand just one match away from potentially turning an extraordinary unbeaten sequence into a world-record achievement.
Garcia has issued a simple rallying cry ahead of Friday’s crucial fixture.
“Let us create the World Record this Friday!”
The significance of the moment is not lost on the club.
JDT have already established themselves as the dominant force in Malaysian football. But creating a world record for the longest unbeaten league run would take that achievement into an entirely different category.
