Harimau Malaya’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rob Friend, has expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to elevating the profile of Malaysian football.
The former Canadian international sees his appointment as an opportunity to contribute to one of the most ambitious projects in global football.
In an interview released by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Friend revealed that his discussions with the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ), played a pivotal role in his decision to join the national football body.
“I really like the vision of this parent body and TMJ; that’s why I’m here,” Friend shared. “His Majesty is an individual with the highest vision. Of course, he has talked about his project, and I see it as one of the most exciting projects in global football.”
Friend highlighted TMJ’s revolutionary leadership and passion for football, which aligns with his own aspirations to build a competitive and globally recognized Harimau Malaya squad.

The CEO also emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in driving the national football team to greater heights.
Rob Friend, who brings extensive international experience to FAM, aims to enhance the development programs for Harimau Malaya at all levels. His immediate focus includes improving player welfare, strengthening the team’s infrastructure, and ensuring the national squad competes effectively in international tournaments.
