The National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT), in collaboration with the Sports Association of Thailand, convened its first selection committee meeting (Session 1/2568) on August 4 to confirm the nation’s participation in the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
The meeting was held at the NOCT headquarters and presided over by top sports officials, including Secretary-General Mr. Thana Chaiprasit.
During the session, Thailand officially confirmed its commitment to participate in all 50 sports and 574 events scheduled for the Games. The country will send a massive delegation of 2,134 athletes supported by 652 team officials, making it one of the largest contingents in the region.
Meanwhile, other Southeast Asian nations have begun submitting their delegation numbers through the official registration system:
- Malaysia: 1,824 athletes, 452 officials
- Singapore: 1,973 athletes
- Vietnam: 863 athletes
- Myanmar: 749 athletes
In a surprising turn, Cambodia, which had previously announced plans to send around 1,500 athletes, drastically reduced its confirmed delegation to just 57 athletes. The sudden decrease is reportedly linked to recent border clashes, which have raised national security concerns and logistical uncertainties.
Mr. Thana noted that several countries, including Cambodia, have requested a postponement in confirming their final athlete numbers. An official update from these countries is expected within the next month, pending developments on both administrative and geopolitical fronts.
