Kuala Lumpur City clawed back from the brink of elimination to defeat Terengganu FC 2-1, booking their spot in the Piala Malaysia 2025/26 semi-finals second leg with a 3-2 aggregate triumph.
It was a night where grit met brilliance, as the City Boys overcame a first-half deficit to break the hearts of the travelling Turtles.
The match exploded into life in the 20th minute. Terengganu’s star winger Akhyar Rashid reminded everyone of his quality, unleashing a thunderous long-range strike that left Quincy Kammeraad clutching at thin air. For much of the first half, Terengganu looked comfortably in control, with Shahrul Nizam’s backline frustrating Victor Ruiz at every turn.
Realizing the tie was slipping away, the City Boys ramped up the pressure in the second half. The introduction of the legendary Paulo Josue provided the creative spark KL City desperately needed.
In the 78th minute, Kamal Azizi delivered a “world-class” cross into the danger zone. Victor Ruiz, redemption-bound after earlier misses, connected with a clinical touch to level the score at 1-1 and ignite the home crowd.
With the clock ticking toward extra time, it had to be him. Paulo Josue proved his “King of KL” status, finding the back of the net in the dying moments to seal the victory and the aggregate lead.
KL City FC moves one step closer to repeating their historic cup heroics. Waiting to face the opponent between Johor Darul Ta’Zim or Melaka FC in the semi-finals.
