Malaysia head coach Peter Cklamovski has hailed the 4-0 triumph over Vietnam as a watershed moment, declaring it a powerful symbol of the ongoing transformation of Harimau Malaya since late 2024.
The emphatic win not only strengthened Malaysia’s position atop Group F in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers—it also silenced critics who, according to Cklamovski, have tried to derail the team’s progress through internal sabotage and political interference.
“This victory means a lot,” Cklamovski told Astro Arena’s Zulhelmi Zainal Azam. “It proves that the Harimau Malaya revolution we’ve been driving since the end of 2024 is beginning to bear real results.”
He didn’t hold back in addressing the challenges behind the scenes.
“There have been internal issues—elements of betrayal, politics, and daily obstacles we’ve had to confront. If we didn’t win tonight, they would have turned on us. They would have gone after TMJ (HRH Tunku Mahkota Ismail, the Regent of Johor), they would have attacked me, calling me a bad coach. They would have targeted the players based on the result,” he said.
“But now that we’ve won, suddenly they’re our best friends. They’ll stand by me. And that’s the beauty of it—we are united as a nation.”
Malaysia’s dominant 4-0 win at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium saw João Figueiredo, Rodrigo Holgado, La’Vere Corbin Ong, and Dion Cools all get on the scoresheet in a statement performance that captured the attention of Asia.
With back-to-back victories and no goals conceded in the qualifiers so far, Harimau Malaya are riding a wave of confidence as they prepare for their next crucial clash against Laos on 9 October.
