The stage is set for one of the most exciting tournaments on the LPGA calendar as the Maybank Championship 2025 returns to the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) from 30 October to 2 November 2025 with a USD 3 million prize purse.
Leading the charge will be World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand, headlining a glittering cast that includes no fewer than 18 LPGA Tour winners from the 2025 season. With no repeat winners so far this year, the Championship promises an open contest and fierce competition.
Thitikul, renowned for her fearless shot-making, will attempt to finally claim the Tiger Trophy, having narrowly missed out in the last two editions. She will once again face her chief rivals:
- Ruoning Yin (China) – the 2024 champion, who edged Thitikul by one shot.
- Celine Boutier (France) – the 2023 inaugural winner after a marathon nine-hole playoff against Thitikul.
Also in the spotlight will be Grace Kim (Australia), fresh off her dramatic Evian Championship victory, where she triumphed over Thitikul in a playoff.
The field will feature debutants and breakthrough stars, including:
- Miyu Yamashita (Japan) – the AIG Women’s Open champion, adding an LPGA title to her 13 JLPGA wins.
- Lottie Woad (England) – former World No. 1 amateur who shocked the golf world by winning the Scottish Open in her first pro start.
- Akie & Chisato Iwai (Japan) – the fan-favorite twins who each became Rolex First-Time Winners this season.
Adding depth and star power are Rio Takeda, Angel Yin, and A Lim Kim, alongside one of golf’s modern icons: Lydia Ko (New Zealand), the reigning Olympic gold medalist, multiple major champion, and World Golf Hall of Famer.
The Maybank Championship continues to be a platform for ASEAN talent. Five Thai golfers booked their spots via the ASEAN Qualifier, led by rising star Kritchanya Kaopattanaskul.
Malaysia’s challenge will be spearheaded by Mirabel Ting, Ashley Lau, Kelly Tan, Liyana Durisic, and Genevieve Ling. Ting and Lau lit up KLGCC last year, finishing T12 and T22 respectively, raising hopes of a local breakthrough.
The Maybank Championship has positioned itself as more than just a sporting spectacle. It is a showcase of ASEAN’s ability to host world-class events, while providing pathways for regional golfers to compete on the LPGA stage.
