Hong Myung-bo, head coach of Ulsan Hyundai has shrugged off his side’s stumbling start to this year’s AFC Champions League and is optimistic the K League leaders will rise to the occasion ahead of their Group I Matchday 2 battle against host Johor Darul Ta’zim on Monday.
“We are still recovering from a tough match against Kawasaki, so the priority has been to ensure we are in the best possible condition to get the three points against JDT,” Hong Myung-Bo said.
“To be honest, I am not concerned about the last-minute goal. Of course, the results matter at this stage, but this is part and parcel of football.
“The most important thing was the performance, and I was pleased with what I saw from my boys against Kawasaki, so I am confident, from a psychological point of view, it will have no impact on us getting the victory tomorrow.”
“We have to pay particular attention to their attackers, both forwards (Bergson and Forestieri) have excellent understanding, great movement and combination play,”
“The Brazilian (Bergson) in particular, proved his capability and we know him from his time in the K League, so clearly, we will pay close attention to control him.”
AFC Champions League 2022, group stage, Group I, matchday 2 between Ulsan Hyundai vs Johor Darul Ta’zim will be played on 18 April at 10.00 pm. at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
