Following Star City FC’s heavy 7-0 defeat to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim, head coach Mehmet Duraković praised the Southern Tigers for their dominant performance.
“JDT are superb. Year after year, JDT are becoming stronger and stronger, and they are simply one of the best teams in Asia,” said Duraković during the post-match press conference.
Despite the heavy scoreline, Duraković was impressed with his side’s performance in the opening stages of the match, before a mistake by goalkeeper Hafizul Hakim in the 16th minute changed the complexion of the game and shifted the momentum firmly in JDT’s favour.
When asked about Star City’s performance prior to the error, Duraković felt his players had shown encouraging signs and competed well against the Malaysian champions.
“It was a turning point after the mistake was made by our side, and JDT started to punish us,” Duraković said.
From that moment on, JDT took control of the match and capitalised on their opportunities, demonstrating their quality as the game progressed.
For Duraković, the result also highlighted just how far JDT have progressed over the years, with the Southern Tigers continuing to strengthen their position as one of the leading clubs in Asian football.
