Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continued their ruthless start to the 2026/27 Unifi Liga Super Malaysia season, producing another devastating attacking display with a 7-0 victory over Star City at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The emphatic result came just days after the Southern Tigers demolished Kelantan Red Warrior FC, with Bergson da Silva once again stealing the spotlight after completing a hat-trick.
JDT head coach Xisco Muñoz trusted the attacking partnership of Bergson and Shahab Zahedi, while Star City fielded experienced defender Rizal Ghazali as one of their senior figures.
JDT needed just 17 minutes to break through. Bergson da Silva opened the scoring with a composed finish, immediately putting Star City under pressure.
The Southern Tigers doubled their advantage 10 minutes later. Marcos Guilherme found the net in the 27th minute, registering his second goal of the new season and further demonstrating JDT’s attacking depth.
The home side continued to dominate. In the 35th minute, Bergson scored again to make it 3-0 and move closer to another hat-trick.
Then came two more goals before the interval. Kevin Medina added JDT’s fourth before Shahab Zahedi struck late in the first half.
JDT headed into the break with a commanding 5-0 advantage.
There was no let-up after half-time. Xisco Muñoz continued to rotate his squad, and the changes immediately paid dividends.
Midfielder Jairo da Silva was introduced before playing a key role in the sixth goal. In the 68th minute, substitute Carlos Akapo finished Jairo’s assist to make it 6-0.
In the 77th minute, JDT were awarded a penalty after the ball struck the hand of Star City defender Anwar Ibrahim inside the box. Bergson stepped forward and calmly converted from the spot.
The Brazilian-born forward had completed his hat-trick and once again underlined his importance to JDT’s relentless attacking machine.
The final whistle confirmed another overwhelming victory for JDT.
The Southern Tigers have now produced back-to-back emphatic victories against Kelantan Red Warrior and Star City, reinforcing their status as the team to beat in the 2026/27 Malaysia Super League.
Bergson’s goalscoring form is another major storyline, with the striker continuing to deliver whenever JDT need a decisive attacking presence.
