Italy national team has out of the tournament after losing to Switzerland national team scoring 0-2 in the UEFA EURO 2024 round of 16 at Olympiastadion, Berlin.
Switzerland took an aggressive approach, applying pressure on Italy’s defense and causing significant stress for the squad led by Luciano Spalletti. This strategy paid off in the 37th minute when midfielder Remo Freuler scored, skillfully finishing Ruben Vargas’ precise pass in the penalty area to beat goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Italy, despite their efforts, couldn’t break through the Swiss defense in the first half. In the second half, Switzerland quickly doubled their lead. Less than 30 seconds after the restart, Vargas scored a stunning goal, cementing Switzerland’s dominance.
Italy tried to respond and almost scored in the 75th minute, but Gianluca Scamacca’s shot hit the left post. Switzerland, known for their impressive Group A performance, maintained their defensive solidity and prevented Italy from scoring.
The match ended 2-0, and Switzerland’s victory propelled them to the quarter-finals.
