Kuching City reignited their ambitions of securing a place in Asian competition next season after producing a thrilling comeback to defeat Terengganu FC 2-1 at Stadium Negeri, Kuching.
In a high-stakes clash with major implications for the top end of the Liga Super Malaysia, the home side showed resilience and character—overturning a first-half deficit with two decisive second-half goals.
Both teams fielded strong line-ups, with Kuching City relying on goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli, while Terengganu looked to their attacking spearhead Careca.
The visitors struck first in the 12th minute through Shervoni Mabatshoev, whose powerful header beat Haziq to give Terengganu an early advantage and silence the home crowd.
Kuching City emerged after the break with renewed urgency—and were rewarded in the 64th minute when Ngah Wanja calmly converted a penalty to level the score.
The equaliser shifted momentum firmly in favour of the hosts, who continued to press for a winner in front of their supporters.
Their persistence paid off in the closing stages, as Jerome Etame struck with just nine minutes remaining to complete a dramatic turnaround and seal all three points.
The 2-1 victory not only ends Terengganu’s hopes on the night but also propels Kuching City into second place in the league standings—keeping their dream of continental football alive.
Under the guidance of head coach Aidil Sharin, Kuching City continue to build momentum at a crucial stage of the season, showing both tactical discipline and fighting spirit.
