Selangor FC reignited the battle for second place in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 with a commanding 4-0 victory over Penang FC at Stadium MBPJ, Petaling Jaya.
Selangor wasted no time asserting their dominance, opening the scoring in the 11th minute through Moraes. The early breakthrough set the tone for a relentless attacking display.
Just four minutes later, French playmaker Hugo Boumous doubled the advantage, capitalising on defensive lapses to beat goalkeeper Ramadhan Hamin.
The hosts tightened their grip on the match in the 21st minute when Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar powered home a header from Boumous’ delivery, making it 3-0 before halftime.
Penang attempted to regroup after the break, with coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail introducing Douglas Coutinho and Haziq Kutty Abba to inject energy into the side.
However, Selangor continued their dominance. Substitute Alvin Fortes delivered a stunning free-kick in the 62nd minute to extend the lead to 4-0, effectively sealing the contest.
With the result beyond doubt, Pan-gon rotated his squad, resting key figures such as Safuwan Baharudin, Faisal Halim, Boumous, and Noor Al-Rawabdeh.
Penang pushed for a consolation goal but were unable to break through as Selangor comfortably saw out the match.
This was a statement performance from Selangor—efficient, clinical, and composed. Their early attacking intensity effectively killed the contest within 25 minutes, allowing them to manage the game with authority thereafter.
With Kuching City FC temporarily climbing into second spot following their earlier win, Selangor responded emphatically under head coach Kim Pan-gon to reclaim the position with 49 points.
The victory not only restores Selangor to second place but also builds crucial momentum ahead of their upcoming continental assignment against Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC in the Shopee Cup semi-final.
For Penang, the heavy defeat raises questions over defensive organisation and consistency, particularly against top-tier opposition.
