Germany national team fought in the rain before beating the Denmark national team scoring 2-0 in the EURO 2024 round of 16 at BVB Dortmund Stadion, Dortmund.
In the initial 20 minutes, Denmark struggled to mount effective attacks, while Germany appeared more comfortable, with four of their six attempts on target. The match took a dramatic turn in the 35th minute when heavy rain and lightning forced referee Michael Oliver to pause the game for about 25 minutes.
Danish defender Joachim Andersen experienced further frustration when his goal was disallowed. Shortly after play resumed, he conceded a handball in the penalty box in the 53rd minute. Kai Havertz capitalized on the opportunity, putting Germany ahead with a well-taken penalty.
Six minutes later, Havertz had another chance in a one-on-one situation with Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. However, his shot went wide, missing the left post.
Despite Denmark’s fighting spirit, their situation worsened in the 68th minute when Jamal Musiala scored Germany’s second goal, sealing the victory.
Germany will face the winner of the match between Spain and Georgia in the quarter-finals.
