Malaysia secured an important 1–0 victory over Nepal in their fifth match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers Round 3 Group F at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
Head coach Peter Cklamovski’s men started with strong intent, pressing high and testing Nepal’s defence from the opening minutes. Syihan Hazmi commanded the goal, Matthew Davies captained the side, while Safawi Rasid spearheaded Malaysia’s attack.
However, Harimau Malaya suffered an early setback when star winger Arif Aiman was forced off in the 8th minute after a heavy challenge. His replacement, Faisal Halim, would later go on to become the hero of the night.
Malaysia’s first-half chances came through a powerful Safawi strike in the 20th minute, followed by a close-range header from Corbin Ong in the 33rd — but Nepal’s goalkeeper, Kiran Kumar, kept the home side frustrated as both attempts failed to find the net.
The match remained goalless at halftime despite Malaysia’s dominance.
Harimau Malaya emerged for the second half with greater urgency, pushing forward relentlessly. Their persistence finally paid off in the 56th minute when Faisal Halim calmly slotted home the opener, sending the crowd of Malaysian supporters into celebration.
Malaysia continued to control the tempo, creating several more opportunities while keeping Nepal pinned deep in their half.
In the closing minutes, the home side had a golden chance to seal the win after being awarded a penalty, but Paulo Josue was unable to convert as his effort went begging.
Despite the missed opportunity, Malaysia held firm to secure all three points and keep their qualification hopes strong.
With a 1–0 victory in front of their home fans, Harimau Malaya continue to build momentum as the race toward the AFC Asian Cup 2027 tightens.
