Bangkok, Jan 29 — Malaysia produced another strong day at the PRINCESS SIRIVANNAVARI Thailand Masters 2026, with several shuttlers booking their places in the quarter-finals, led by a fighting comeback from Lee Zii Jia in the men’s singles.
The HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament saw Malaysian representatives shine across disciplines, though a few heartbreak exits also marked a dramatic Round of 16.
Malaysia’s top men’s singles star Lee Zii Jia showed resilience and championship mentality after dropping the first game against India’s Mithun Manjunath.
Lee regrouped quickly, raising the tempo and tightening his control at the net to clinch a 2-1 victory 11-21, 21-16, 21-12
The win sends Lee into the last eight and keeps Malaysia’s singles hopes alive in Bangkok.
Sixth seed Justin Hoh fought hard but was unable to overcome China’s Zhu Xuan Chen, going down in a tight three-game contest 17-21, 22-20, 9-21
Despite forcing a decider with a spirited second-game comeback, Hoh could not sustain the momentum in the final game.
Malaysia enjoyed success in men’s doubles as fourth seeds Azriyn Ayub / Tan Wee Kiong continued their steady run, defeating Taiwan’s Lai Po Yu / Tsai Fu Cheng in straight games 21-16, 22-20
However, sixth seeds Kang Khai Xing / Aaron Tai suffered an upset exit, narrowly losing to China’s Hu Ke Yuan / Lin Xiang Yi by straight sets 21-23, 18-21
Meanwhile, Chia Wei Jie / Lwi Sheng Hao delivered one of the day’s standout performances, edging Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun / P. Teeraratsakul in three games 21-14, 15-21, 21-19
Malaysia’s women’s singles contingent continued to impress with three players reaching the quarter-finals.
Wong Ling Ching produced a composed straight-games victory over Denmark’s seventh seed Julie Dawall Jakobsen 21-18, 21-11
Letshanaa Karupathevan battled through a tough three-game encounter against India’s Shriyanshi Valishetty, sealing the win in three games 21-17, 20-22, 21-19
Former national champion Goh Jin Wei also delivered a major result, overcoming China’s sixth seed Han Qian Xi after losing the opener in the three games 12-21, 21-10, 21-16
Seventh seeds Jimmy Wong / Lai Pei Jing were eliminated after a closely fought match against Thailand’s Supak Jomkoh / O. Jongsathapornparn in the three games 21-13, 15-21, 19-21
With Lee Zii Jia, Azriyn Ayub–Tan Wee Kiong, and a trio of women’s singles stars all advancing, Malaysia remains a major force heading into the quarter-finals of the Thailand Masters 2026.
