Shin Tae-Yong, head coach of the Indonesia U23 national team, could not suppress his anger at referee Nasrullo Kabirov after suffering a 2-0 defeat to the Qatar U23 national team in the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024 Group Stage, Group A last night.
Indonesia U23 got 2 red cards in this match from Ivan Jenner in the 46th minute and Ramadan Sananta in the 90+6th minute.
Tae-yong also indirectly assessed that the match had been aimed from the start at giving victory to Qatar.
“The players have tried their best. But a lot of the referee’s decisions throughout the match, if you look at them, they’re not a football match, but they’re a comedy show.” said Tae-yong.
“They are the hosts, but that’s too much,”
“I can’t say anything about the players who were sent off, I’m at a loss for words. Football shouldn’t be played like this.”
“I really don’t understand. We’re here to compete, but what lessons does the AFC teach us? I don’t understand. Throughout my 50 years of life, I have only been involved in football.”
“Our first red card, no contact at all, [but] a red card. Why don’t they use VAR in situations like this?”
Tae-yong added, if something like this happened in Indonesia, the referee would become the butt of jokes.
“Fans watched this match on television. If you use a referee like this, in Indonesia, it will be considered that you want to make a joke. “Coaches also have eyes, watching from the bench throughout the match,”
